MP: the Russian delegation may withdraw from the January session of PACE


The decision that the Russian delegation not to go at the January session, now under discussion, said Leonid Kalashnikov. He suggests that the formal decision on this matter will be announced on Monday.

MOSCOW, 15 Jan. The Russian delegation may be made a decision on the refusal to participate in the January session of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), said the first Deputy Chairman of state Duma Committee on international Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov.

“Discusses the decision by the delegation not to go because already prepared definite decision about the extension of the restrictions for our Russian delegation. Then the whole point of the trip there disappears and gives rise to another question to anyone out there not to participate,” said Kalashnikov.

When he misspoke, “But I’m not authorized to make that claim, because I’m not the head of the delegation. But I asked, I was given this answer. I think it is logical, correct. How it (decision) will be formulated and voiced by whom — I don’t know.”

The MP assumes that a formal decision will be announced on Monday.

At the end of January 2015 PACE because of the situation in Ukraine adopted a resolution that stripped the Russian delegation of voting rights, the right to participate in the work of the statutory bodies and in monitoring elections. In response, the Russian delegation until the end of 2015, left the Assembly.
