Contacts with the new leadership of the PACE possible in the case that it will articulate his desire to do everything possible to ensure conditions for the return of the Russian delegation, said Alexei Pushkov.
MOSCOW, 18 Jan. The head of the Duma Committee on international Affairs, head of the Russian delegation in PACE Alexei Pushkov does not exclude the possibility of contacts with the new leadership of the Assembly, if it is to do everything possible to return the Russian delegation in the organization.
At the January session of the PACE will elect a new President of the Assembly.
“I do not exclude the possible contacts with the new leadership (PACE), if it will articulate his desire to do everything possible to ensure conditions for the return of the Russian delegation,” said Pushkov journalists.
“At the moment, until this new guidance and does not define his political position, we will stick to our previous position, which is that official contacts with PACE until we support it,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, the Deputy head of the Russian delegation Leonid Slutsky said that the decision was made not to participate in the PACE winter session. According to him, Russia will return to Strasbourg only on equal terms and in the case of guarantees of return of all the powers of delegations that have been discontinued in January 2015.
