Demchyshyn: the cost of transporting gas through Ukraine increased by almost 50%


KIEV, January 19. The cost of transporting gas through Ukraine increased by almost 50 percent. On Tuesday at the briefing said the Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Volodymyr demchyshyn.

“Before that was the tariff for transit, and now will be just a transportation tariff of about $4.5 per 100 km, it’s more somewhere in the 50 percent, even more,” he said.

Increased rate of transit

Previously the rate was $2,7 for the transportation of thousand cubic meters of gas per 100 km.

Reporting improved rates on the transit of gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, Director of business development at Naftogaz Yury Vitrenko said: “Ukraine finally has radically raised “Gazprom” the transit rate in full compliance with the European principles”.

Tuesday, January 18, the head of “Naftogaz” Andrey Kobelev declared in Brussels that the company expects by the end of January to discuss with the Russian “Gazprom” tariffs for the transit of gas from Russia in connection with the entered Ukraine this year, the principle of “transport or pay” (ship-or-pay). According to him, in case of the ineffectiveness of negotiations Kiev “reserves the right to address in court”.

Speaking of gas reserves, Demchishin said that the Ukrainian gas storages is 12,150 billion cubic meters of gas.

“Today (in storage) – 12,150 billion cubic meters, for yesterday (spent) – 80 million cubic meters”, – said Demchyshyn, stressing that “extreme situation”. At the same time, the Minister acknowledged that “consumed more actively”.

Demchyshyn recalled that Ukraine continues to buy gas from Europe at $190 per thousand cubic meters. “There are technological issues that can potentially arise. While there are complications,” he added, in this context, Demchyshyn.
