The lifting of the sanctions on Iran will be a new impetus for the development of trade between Iran and Russia, said Iranian Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanai, expressing hope that trade and economic relations between the two countries will develop in parallel with the political.
MOSCOW, 19 Jan. The current trade turnover between Iran and Russia in $ 2 billion does not correspond to the strategic level of bilateral relations, Tehran hopes to increase following the lifting of sanctions, said on Tuesday the Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanai.
“The lifting of the sanctions on Iran would certainly be a new impetus for the development of trade between Iran and Russia. We hope that bilateral economic and trade relations will develop in parallel with the political and cooperation in the security sphere. Those obstacles that we have seen in the economic cooperation, were largely due to sanctions. Their cancellation creates a very positive condition for the development of bilateral ties,” the Ambassador said after meeting with representatives of the Iranian and Russian business.
He expressed the hope that “this serious opportunity for cooperation will increase trade.”
“Because the present volume is certainly not worthy of the status of our strategic relationship. I think $ 2 billion is not the level that corresponds to this status. I very much hope that in the future we will be able, with mutual assistance to increase it”,- said the diplomat.
