STAVROPOL, January 25. The government is discussing the imposition of export duties on mineral fertilizers, but it may not lead to the desired results. This was stated by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the inter-regional forum of the popular front.

“As for this method, as a raise of export duty (mineral fertilizers) – Yes, this is also one of the options, it is also being studied. And the Prime Minister brought up this issue. According to estimates of the Ministry of agriculture and the Ministry of industry, it may not lead to expected results”, – Putin said.

As the President noted, even in the case of increasing export duties producers can hold on the domestic market is still the high price, if they do not have direct obligations to curb rising prices. “A load on them (in case of increase of export duties) will increase. But they must understand that if they do not take into account the specifics of the day, responsibility before the country and the economy, and agriculture, this tool (the new taxes) the state has,” said Putin.

The Ministry of agriculture and Ministry of industry are actively working with fertilizer companies to limit the price increase, said the head of state.

“If on nitrate prices are still holding, they are not much increased, for other types of fertilizers are growing at a remarkable pace. I very much hope that in the near future, and it’s the middle of January, the relevant agencies with the manufacturers to agree and come to these decisions”, – said Putin.
