Valuev member proposes to introduce in Russia the term “veteran sports”


The purpose of the bill is to consolidate the concepts veteran of the sport, formally existing in the Russian Federation, but not reflected in the legislation.

MOSCOW, 27 Jan. The Deputy Nikolai Valuev submitted to the state Duma a draft law defining the term “veteran sports”, which refers to the part of sports directed on physical training of athletes older than 35 years, their participation in sports activities.

“The novelty of the bill is to consolidate the concepts veteran of the sport, formally existing in the Russian Federation for many years, however, not found to date its legislative notice”, — stated in the explanatory Memorandum.

According to the draft law, under veteran sports will be defined as part of sports directed on physical training to improve health and quality of life of athletes of older age group (persons aged 35 years), their training and participation in athletic and sporting events, including the official, as well as the strengthening of international sports cooperation.

“This innovation will allow not only to create all necessary factors to continue sports activities professional athletes who have finished sports career, but also, and primarily, to bring to systematic sports activities a significant number of persons over the age of 35 years, thereby significantly improve General state of health of citizens”, — stated in the explanatory documents

Valuev said that the adoption of the amendments due to the need to create equal conditions and guarantees in the field of physical culture and sports for all age categories of citizens and establish the necessary limitations and peculiarities of the participation of citizens in sports considering the age of the athletes.
