Patrushev: selectivity in international law leads to instability


The selective application of international law, disregard for its norms is the cause of conflict, the spread of terrorism, says Russia’s security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

MOSCOW, 1 Feb. The cause of long-term instability and conflict is the selective application of international law, its “fit” the momentary political interests, said in an interview with news Agency the associated Press Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

“The selective application of international law, its “fit” the momentary political interests can cause long-term instability and conflict”, – said Patrushev.

He reminded that such examples are well known. “It is a recognition of Kosovo’s independence, the use of force to change an “inconvenient” for someone of the leaders in Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya, the attempts to repeat the same scenario in Syria, the organization of the coup d’état in Ukraine”.

In his words, “a consequence of the policy of double standards, disregard for international law becomes active the spread of terrorism, extremism, inter-religious and inter-ethnic enmity”.
