MOSCOW, February 3. Moscow notes with satisfaction the level of cooperation with Tehran on the settlement in Syria, but called for more active participation in solving regional problems in the framework of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO).

This was stated by the Deputy Secretary of the Russian security Council Evgeny Lukyanov, speaking at a meeting of the International round table “Russian-Iranian cooperation in the current geopolitical environment” in the Russian Institute for strategic studies.
“We are satisfied with the level of our cooperation with Iran on Syria,” he said.
Iran’s participation in SCO
Lukyanov also expressed hope for greater engagement of the Islamic Republic in the solution of regional problems in the framework of the SCO.

“For its part would like to see Iran as an observer of the SCO more actively connected to the activities of this organization to counter challenges and threats to regional security,” he said.
“Will deal with the concerns of Tehran on the situation in Afghanistan,” – said Lukyanov.
Full-fledged participation of Iran in the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) will create more freedom for maneuvers of the major powers, said in his turn, the adviser of the spiritual leader of Iran for international Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati.
He noted the importance of cooperation with Russia to strengthen such independent organizations as BRICS, the Shanghai cooperation organization. “It is necessary that Iran came to full participation in the SCO, said Ali Akbar Velayati. – This will give more freedom for maneuvers of the major powers”.
Agreements in the energy sector
At the same time, Moscow is counting on the implementation of agreements with Tehran in the energy, oil and gas and transport sectors. “One of the priorities of development of bilateral relations is the beginning of practical work on specific economic projects,” – said Deputy Secretary of the Russian security Council.
According to Lukyanov, “the goal of the decision of the 12th session of the joint intergovernmental Commission on trade – economic cooperation and the first meeting of the Russian-Iranian Commission high-level scientific and technical sphere”.
“We need to go out on the implementation of agreements in the field of energy, including nuclear, oil and gas, transport,” he said.
Moscow and Tehran do not have to compete in the energy sector, said the Advisor to the spiritual leader of Iran.
“In the energy sector of Iran and Russia should not feel a sense of competition, they need to cooperate,” he said.
Western pressure on Iran
Even if after the lifting of sanctions with Iran economic relations of this country with the West will develop, political pressure on the Islamic Republic will not decrease, I am sure Ali Akbar Velayati.
“We are making efforts to reconstruct relations with the West, said Velayati. But this does not mean that the political pressure from the West on us will be reduced. Even if we develop economic relations, in the political sense we have a basic disagreement with him (the West)”.
