JERUSALEM, 3 February. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict can be resolved only through negotiations. This opinion was expressed in Jerusalem, the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko after talks with his Israeli counterpart – speaker of the Knesset (Parliament) Yuli Edelstein.
“Russia has always believed and believes that no other solution for the Palestinian-Israeli relations, but to the peace political negotiations, there is no”, – said Matvienko. According to her, Russia is concerned over “the escalation of relations in recent times, the actual freezing of the negotiation process”. Matviyenko noted that “Russia in the bilateral format and within the framework of the “Quartet” will make an effort to seeking a mutually acceptable solution for continuing the dialogue.”
In turn, Edelstein stressed that “Israel does not set any preconditions for resumption of negotiations”. According to the speaker of the Knesset, this has been repeatedly stated by the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
“All the things that can make the Federation Council and the Russian leadership in order to establish cooperation with parliaments of neighbouring Arab States, will be accepted with great enthusiasm in the Knesset,” continued Edelstein. “We as speakers no mandate to negotiate about the world… But we have unconditional mandate to establish cooperation”, – he stressed.
