Peskov: Putin has not been and is not planned contacts with Erdogan


MOSCOW, 5 February. President Vladimir Putin recently did not hold and does not plan any contact with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

This was reported by press Secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.

“Any contact,” he told reporters. “I am not aware that any contact had been planned,” – said Peskov.

On the eve of the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that no meetings of the foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov with the representatives of Turkey is not planned. “There are no plans, as far as I know, the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation with Turkish counterparts today, no,” she said.

The diplomat also stressed that the Russian side did nothing to Russian-Turkish relations deteriorated. “Everything goes from Ankara, to our deep regret, because it all is really destructive,” – said Zakharov.

1 February Peskov said that Putin was informed about the desire of Erdogan to hold a bilateral meeting. “Putin was informed about the desire of President Erdogan,” said the spokesman. Answering the question about the reaction to the proposal of the Turkish leader, a Kremlin spokesman said that he had nothing more to say.

Erdogan on 30 January told journalists that he wants to meet with Putin in connection with the alleged violation of Turkish airspace by Russian military aircraft.

Earlier in the day the Turkish foreign Ministry claimed that military aircraft from Russia had violated Turkish airspace. “Yesterday (29 January 2016) owned by VKS the Russian one su-34 had violated Turkish airspace. Before the violation of the Turkish radar station repeatedly in Russian and English warned of Russian aircraft”, – said the Turkish foreign Ministry. The office also noted that on January 29 evening “the Russian Ambassador was invited to the Ministry, and he was raised hard protest and condemnation” in connection with the incident.
