Medvedev: the immigration crisis in Europe is already close to a humanitarian catastrophe


MUNICH, February 13. The migration crisis caused by the destruction of an entire country after attempts to enforce there “Western models” of democracy, is already close to a humanitarian catastrophe in Europe. This opinion was expressed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, speaking at an international security conference in Munich.

“The current immigration crisis on many of its manifestations is approaching a humanitarian disaster – at least in some European regions”, – said the head of the Russian government.

He recalled how his foreign colleagues “rejoiced the so-called “Arab spring”. “Well where is she – a modern democracy in these countries? They took the form of ISIL (former name “Islamic state”, is prohibited in the RF group)?”, – asked a rhetorical question, the Russian Prime Minister.

Undermining Schengen area

There was a real threat of destruction of the single economic space, followed by cultural space, and even the European identity!

Russia looks with regret at undermining the Schengen zone of the European Union because of the crisis, with migrants, also said Medvedev.

“We regret to see the undermining of the need for Russia mechanisms. I mean a collapse, in fact, the Schengen area”, – said the head of the Russian government, commenting on the crisis with the influx of migrants to Europe.

Medvedev stated that as a result of the crisis aggravated social problems, increasing mutual intolerance and xenophobia. “I’m not talking about the fact that as refugees in European countries penetrate hundreds and thousands of extremists. Or people who have a completely alien culture who want to get benefits and do nothing,” – said Medvedev. In this regard, he concluded, “there is a real threat of destruction of the single economic space, followed by cultural space, and even the European identity!”, – added the Prime Minister.
