MOSCOW, February 20. The lack of support the Russian resolution on Syria by the six countries on the UN security Council due to their failure to recognize the fact of Russia for the common good to resolve the Syrian crisis and to let her lead in this matter. This opinion was expressed on his page in the network Facebook, the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, commenting that there was no agreement between member countries of the security Council on the proposed Moscow document.

The Senator hopes that “the denial of these countries is only temporary and provisional, in the mode of wounded pride and the desire to give Russia the initiative in the Syrian settlement.” “More precisely: not to recognize at the level of the UN security Council is an obvious fact, the initiative of Russia for the common good”, – he stressed, adding that the existence of the common coordinate system in the Syrian issue is necessary for further movement towards peace in Syria. The basis of this coordinate system, believes Kosachev, should be “respect for the sovereignty of States and the integrity in strict accordance with the UN Charter”. “If we do not recognize these basic things, we knowingly condone any aggression”, – he noted.
The Senator believes that the thesis of the inadmissibility of “any actions undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria” was the cause of blocking the Russian resolution. In his view, it is significant that the bill was opposed by “those very States that are simultaneously urged to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and even impose sanctions against Russia, which, in their opinion, refers to this integrity without due respect”. Moreover, Kosachev pointed out, “the US Ambassador to the UN protested that Russia is only “distracting” in its resolution of peaceful settlement in Syria.” “That is the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state is so insignificant things that are not even mentioned in the UN resolutions? Curious to know – and in Kiev know about it?”, – concluded the head of the international Committee of the Federation Council.
Previously presiding in the UN security Council the Venezuelan diplomat Rafael Ramirez said that the Council members did not reach agreement on the Russian-proposed draft statement in defense of Syrian sovereignty. The draft resolution was rejected by six members of the security Council, including the United Kingdom, USA and France. Negotiations on the document will resume on Monday.
The Russian Federation made the text requires all States to stop the shelling of Syria, to respect its sovereignty and “to leave all attempts or plans” implementation of a military invasion to the territory of the country. The document was a response to the actions of Turkey, which in recent days is shelling the positions of Syrian Kurds involved in the fight against gangs on the side of Damascus.
