MOSCOW, February 20. The Kurds can play an important role in the fight against Syria “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in the Russian Federation) and the release of its northeast territories. “The Kurds, in my opinion, should play a very important role in the liberation of North-Eastern Syria from ISIS (“Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant” – the former name of the IG)”, – he said.

The politician said that the US should adopt a consistent position on this issue and to explain the Turkish allies that the Kurds are “our allies in the fight against ISIL”.

He also stressed that the Kurds should be allowed to negotiate because not only are an important part of the Syrian population, but to actively oppose ISIS in contrast to the moderate opposition.

“Any troops that could fight with ISIS in Syria, in fact, are not there, except the Syrian army, which is ready to do it, and groups of Kurds, who comprise about 50-60 thousand people, and are a serious armed force,” added Pushkov.

Since the beginning of the week in its offensive to Kurdish soldiers backed from the air the air force of the international coalition, managed to take about 50 settlements in the region. The Kurds are in the “Syria democratic Forces” (SDS), created in October last year.
