MOSCOW, February 20. First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Franz Klintsevich believes that the absence of UN Security Council agreement on a Russian draft resolution in defense of sovereignty in Syria could seriously complicate the negotiations on the peaceful settlement of the situation in the region.
“One can only regret that the UN Security Council did not agree on made Russia a draft resolution on the sovereignty of Syria”, – said the Senator told reporters. He added that against the document “no substantial arguments were voiced”.

Klintsevich’m sure having the right of veto in the security Council the U.S., Britain and France opposed it for the sake of principle. “Thus, they in fact supported Turkey in its aggression, once again showing his Atlantic solidarity,” he said.
According to first Deputy Chairman of Committee of the Federation Council, it appears that “the U.S., Britain and France, at least at the moment, are unable or, more likely, didn’t want to take a single step to the side of the block positions, and continue to operate within the paradigm of “friend or foe”, which is typical for the cold war. “I’m afraid it could seriously complicate peace talks on Syria, drove the situation in this country to an absolute deadlock,” said the Senator.
At the same time, the MP stressed that “Russia is open for cooperation to resolve the Syrian problem, including in the framework of the UN security Council”.
Previously presiding in the UN security Council the Venezuelan diplomat Rafael Ramirez said that the Council members did not reach agreement on the Russian-proposed draft statement in defense of Syrian sovereignty. He added that negotiations on the document will resume on Monday.
According to information from diplomats, the meeting invited the Russian Federation the draft resolution was rejected by six members of the security Council, including the United Kingdom, USA and France. Before the meeting of the permanent representatives of the last two stated that the Russian document has no future.
The Russian Federation made the text requires all States to stop the shelling of Syria, to respect its sovereignty and “to leave all attempts or plans” implementation of a military invasion to the territory of the country.
The document was a response to the actions of Turkey, which in recent days is shelling the positions of Syrian Kurds involved in the fight against gangs on the side of Damascus.
