Lavrov and Kerry continued the harmonisation of modalities for cessation of hostilities in Syria


MOSCOW, February 21. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry in a telephone conversation today continued the harmonisation of modalities and conditions for the cessation of hostilities in Syria with the exception of operations against terrorists.

“The foreign Ministers as co-chairs of the International support group Syria (MGPS) and in accordance with its decisions of 12 February continued the harmonisation of modalities and conditions for the cessation of hostilities in Syria with the exception of operations against organizations recognized as terrorist by the UN Security Council,” – said in Russian depodesta.

This is the second conversation of the Ministers in the last two days. February 20, Lavrov and Kerry discussed the relief of humanitarian assistance and the modalities of the ceasefire. “Confirmed that development of mechanisms of performance of these tasks requires coordination on the military side”, – said the Russian foreign Ministry.

On Saturday the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova announced the transfer scheduled for Saturday in Geneva meeting of the task force on the cessation of violence in the framework of the International support group Syria (MGPS).

Earlier, representatives of the US and Russia as co-chairs MHPS held a series of consultations in Geneva at expert level on matters that will be submitted for approval by the task force to stop the violence.

As previously reported, Deputy foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov, the cessation of violence was to hold the first meeting back on February 19. In his words, “the composition of this group will be composed of the Cosponsors of the process – the United States and the Russian Federation and some countries of MGPS”. The meeting was planned at the expert level with the participation of diplomats and military.
