MOSCOW, February 23. Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev hopes that the agreement Russia and the U.S., ceasefire in Syria will be implemented. He stated this.

“I would welcome that these statements were implemented”, – he said. Gorbachev hoped that the agreement will be “a very serious step in the direction of the truce”. “It is clear that the power nothing happens, not solved”, – said the former President of the USSR. He urged the government to act with “regard to the interest and direct participants, and the international community.” “In a global world, otherwise it is impossible to pursue a policy”, – said Gorbachev.

22 February in the evening was circulated a joint statement of the Russian Federation and the United States, which States that the ceasefire in Syria will come into force on 27 February at 00:00 time of Damascus (01:00 GMT). The statement stressed that the truce apply to all parties to the conflict, with the exception of terrorist groups, DAISH (Arabic name “Islamic state”) and “EN-dzhebhat Nusra” (both banned in Russia), as well as other terrorist organizations recognized by the UN Security Council.

Damascus reiterated its support for the ceasefire in the case of organizations that are not terrorist, and has already begun to take concrete steps to implement it.
