VIENNA, 25 February. State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin considers terrorists as “barbarians of the XXI century”.
Talking to journalists in Vienna, Naryshkin reminded about “open and consistent” position of Russia on the Syrian settlement. “We aim to unite the international community in combating this evil, the barbarians of the XXI century – international terrorists,” he said.
“Implacable fight against terrorism”
The solution for Syria is in the fight against terror and the holding of elections, believes Naryshkin. “In tackling the most acute of the Syrian problem, the cessation of the civil war there are two areas. The first is the implacable struggle against terrorism. Second and most importantly is the political. It is a consistent dialogue with the participation of all political forces from all regions of Syria to reach agreement and to ensure that elections were held”, – he said.

The head of the lower house of the Russian Parliament also urged “to do everything necessary to make a joint statement (Russia and USA) with the proposal of the ceasefire were carried out”. “To do this, Russia and our main partners – the U.S. and the so-called coalition has all the opportunities to influence actors and performers,” he added.
Answering the question of one of journalists, the speaker also emphasized that “the fight against ISIL (“Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant” – the former name is forbidden in the Russian Federation the terrorist group “Islamic state”) and “dzhebhat EN-Nusra” (also prohibited in Russia) is not a cover, this is the destruction of the barbarians of the twenty-first century, the terrorists who, if not stopped now, they go ahead, they can come in our house.”
“Air and space forces of Russia are doing everything possible so that this black scenario will not happen. We want our partners to have the same effective effort,” said Naryshkin.
The fate of Syria
No third countries cannot decide the fate of Syria for its people, believes Naryshkin. “The Syrian people, as the people of Austria, Russia, USA, any other country, has equal rights – the right to elect their own government. And no third country, however powerful and influential they may be, do not have the right to decide the country’s fate for the Syrians,” he told reporters.
