LATAKIA, on February 29. The ceasefire, which came into force in Syria on the night of Saturday, is generally followed, said Monday the head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Lieutenant General Sergei Kurylenko.
“Overall, the ceasefire between government troops and opposition forces in the Syrian Arab Republic observed,” said Kurylenko on the briefing.
Kurylenko also added that employees of the Russian center in cooperation with the government army for the last days recorded seven violations of the ceasefire regime in the country.
“For the past day the officers of the Russian Center, as well as government troops and forces of self-defense recorded 7 cases of violations of the cessation of hostilities,” said Kurylenko journalists. In particular, he noted, in the ashrafiyya district of the city (Aleppo province) militant group “dzhebhat EN-Nusra” (banned in Russia – approx.) was attacked positions of Kurdish militia with artillery.
“Information about all violations of us transferred to the American center for reconciliation in Amman,” said Kurylenko journalists.
He added that the Centre provides “round the clock” control over observance of the truce in the six provinces of Syria: Hama, HOMS, Latakia, Damascus, Aleppo and Deraa.
On the joint work of Russia and the USA
Sergey Kuralenko also reported that the heads of the coordinating centres of the Russian Federation and the US discussed on the phone the first results of the cessation of hostilities in Syria and expressed satisfaction with the joint work.
“Under the coordination of the observance of the ceasefire and cessation of hostilities took place a telephone conversation between the leadership of the coordinating centres with the Russian (airbase “Dmamem”) and the American side (Amman). We discussed the first results of the cessation of hostilities and expressed satisfaction with the joint work”, – said Korolenko journalists. “The conversation passed in a constructive key”, – said the representative of the defense Ministry.
The actions of the Turkish military
In addition, Kurulenko stated that the contraction of the Turkish military armored vehicles along its border with Syria areas and strengthening the position is a provocative step which can lead to failure of the ceasefire and the ceasefire in the Arab Republic.
“We also drew attention to the footage of yesterday’s shooting of one of Russian TV channels in the area located near the border with Turkey the city of tall abyad. They fixed the equipment of the Turkish military of firing positions and the contraction in cross-border band of armored vehicles from which have been fired at populated areas of Syria,” said Kurylenko journalists.
“We regard this action as very provocative that could lead to the disruption of the process of ceasefire and reconciliation in the Syrian Arab Republic”, – he added.
