Swiss brand TAG Heuer has decided not to renew advertising contract with the tennis star Maria Sharapova after she failed a doping test, reports Reuters referring to the statement of the company’s management.
In the message TAG Heuer States that the duration of the previous contract had expired on 31 December 2015 and the company conducted negotiations with Sharapova on its extension.
“Given the situation Swiss brand watches suspended the talks and decided not to renew the contract”, — stated in TAG Heuer.
Earlier cooperation with athlete suspended sporting goods company Nike. Long-term sponsor of tennis player said that “disappointed and surprised by the news about Sharapova”.
At the moment, Sharapova signed advertising contracts with American Express, Avon, Evian, Head, and Porsche. According to estimates of Forbes, in 2015, advertising has paid the athlete $23 million.
On the eve of Sharapova said that her doping samples taken during the Open championship of Australia on tennis, found a prohibited substance is Meldonium. Tennis player used it for ten years, but from 1 January 2016 the World anti-doping Agency (WADA) included Meldonium to the list of prohibited use.
