Lavrov and Kerry advocated the immediate start of inter-Syrian talks


MOSCOW, March 4. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry in a telephone conversation called for the early commencement of the inter-Syrian talks in Geneva.

This was stated in the Russian depodesta on the results of talks held at the initiative of Kerry.

“In reviewing the implementation of the Russian – American initiative on the cessation of hostilities in Syria, with the exception of dealing with terrorists, and adopted in support of the resolutions of the UN Security Council confirmed 2268 approved by the presidents of Russia and USA line for further close interaction of our countries in the military area, – noted in the Ministry. The sides called for an early start in Geneva under UN auspices negotiations between the SAR Government and the entire spectrum of the opposition, during which the Syrians themselves should decide their country’s future”.

The parties agreed to “continue actively promote all aspects of the Syrian settlement through the International support group Syria co-chaired by Russia, US and UN”.

The foreign Ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Yemen. “Decided to intensify joint efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Yemeni crisis in support of the actions undertaken by the UN,” – said the Russian foreign Ministry.

Lavrov informed Kerry about the main results of the meeting of foreign Ministers of “Normandy format” on settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. “They discussed some other issues of mutual interest”, – noted in the Ministry.
