The pipeline project was stopped due to the unconstructive position of the European Commission, any work not conducted by him, said a spokesman for the Russian President.
MOSCOW, 18 Mar. The project “South stream” is stopped, the work on it is not underway, said the press-Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.
Earlier on Friday, EU Ambassador to Russia Vygaudas Usackas said that the EU in case of receipt of proposals on the “South stream” is ready to discuss them, but the projects must comply with the third energy package.
“Project “South stream” does not exist, it is closed, no work is carried out, the project was stopped in connection with the corresponding position of the European Commission”, — said Peskov.
He added that there was no decision by the EC to change the position on the project “South stream”.
Russia in December 2014, refused from the project of gas pipeline “South stream” because of the unconstructive position of the EU, which insisted that the project must conform to the standards of the third energy package. This reform package prohibits companies to combine the production and transportation of gas.
Instead of the “South stream” Russia has decided to build a “Turkish stream”, but this project was frozen on the background of the cooling of political relations between Moscow and Ankara.
