In the U.S. drivers filed a class action lawsuit against Uber in US district court for the Northern district of Illinois. It is reported by TechCrunch citing a company statement.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to declare Uber drivers employees, not independent contractors, they are entitled to pay for overtime compensation and to recover the costs.
As recalled by the publication, this lawsuit is similar to two others filed earlier in California and Massachusetts. Then the court sided with the company. However, Uber had to make concessions, in particular, to pay $100 million 385 thousand drivers.
As TechCrunch notes, that process lasted about three years, however, set the precedent, which suggests that the action will take place in a shorter time.
Uber claims to arise not only from drivers, but from passengers. In early April, the company agreed to pay $10 million to settle a lawsuit regarding his statements about the selection of drivers.
