The former head of fraction of Party of regions in Verkhovna Rada Olexander Yefremov was detained by law enforcement agencies. About this on his page in Facebook said the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko.
“On suspicion in infringement of territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine detained the former head of fraction of Party of regions”, — said the head of the Prosecutor General.
Press Secretary Lutsenko Larisa Sargan told that Ephraim detained in Kiev’s Borispol airport. He was going to fly to Vienna, where his son.
Yefremov in February last year, was detained by the staff of the Prosecutor General and security Service of Ukraine. He was accused of abuse of office under aggravating circumstances and forgery, and later the financing of terrorism. The politician was soon released on bail.
One of the cases, the defendant was Efremov, due to the adopted by the Parliament in January 2014 laws. Then the Parliament on the initiative at that time, the ruling Party of regions has tightened the rules of holding mass events, introduced criminal liability for libel and allowed pre-trial blocking of Internet resources. The opposition has described the laws as “draconian”, and a month later they were canceled.
In early may of this year the Prosecutor General’s office has lifted restrictions on the movement of Ephraim. In an interview to “Ukrainian news” he said that he did not know how many cases passes in quality accused. “I’ve been in the questioning on six cases,” Yefremov said, adding that two criminal proceedings have already been closed.
Then the former head of the parliamentary faction announced that the Prosecutor’s office returned his internal and foreign passports, and removed his electronic bracelet.
