The us military has asked the political leadership of the country to send to Iraq an additional contingent of 500 men for participation in the operation to liberate the city of Mosul — the last major stronghold of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (banned in Russia) in Iraq. Additional forces need to help the Iraqi army and coalition troops in the operation to capture Mosul. Its decisive phase, expected to begin in October 2016.
The emergence of new American troops in Iraq will increase the U.S. contingent from 4400 to 4900 people. The publication notes that September from the U.S. to Iraq has been sent to about 400 employees to participate in the operation to liberate Mosul.
It clarifies the newspaper, the US President Barack Obama has still not approved a plan for military action.
The White house said that the American part of Iraq not directly involved in the fighting, they perform there a supporting role and act as advisers. However, they are armed and have the right to defend themselves on the battlefield.
