The United States, Britain and France called for the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria, Reuters reports citing diplomats.
According to them, the UN security Council meeting will be held on Sunday 15:00 GMT (18:00 GMT). It will be discussed the worsening situation in Aleppo.
On Saturday evening the head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini and member of the European Commission for humanitarian Affairs of Christos Stylianides issued a joint statement expressing concern about the deterioration of the situation in Aleppo, Syria.
It was stressed that the situation in Aleppo, Syria in the last 48 hours has deteriorated sharply, despite continued attempts by the international community to restore the cessation of hostilities in Syria.
“The suffering of the civilians were caused by indiscriminate military bombardment, shelling and attacks, and deprivation of humanitarian aid the deliberate attack care, including by deliberate attacks on humanitarian convoy last week that has now led to the overlap of the supply of water to the majority of civilians in the city. That is an unacceptable violation of international humanitarian law”, — said in a statement.
It Mogherini and Stylianides also called on all countries with influence on the regime of Bashar al-Assad, as well as those who have contacts with the armed opposition, to exert maximum pressure on them to stop attacks and providing easy and continuous access to people in need of humanitarian assistance.
The statement also urges to resume as quickly as possible, political negotiations under UN auspices in Geneva. “The EU will consider further measures it can take to get all parties to sit down at the negotiating table,” the statement says.
On Saturday, Reuters with reference to the head of the civil defense forces in opposition-controlled Eastern Aleppo reported intense air strikes near Aleppo.
