Mikhail Saakashvili announced that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko intends to deprive him of citizenship. The former Governor of the Odessa region wrote on his page in Facebook. According to him, of that he was told “well informed source”.
“President Poroshenko instructed Igor Kononenko [the first Deputy Chairman of the faction “Block of Petro Poroshenko”] and his sidekick [Alexander] Granovsky, the informal curator of the litigation in the pyramid of corruption of the presidential administration, to prepare the issue of depriving me of citizenship by court decision,” wrote Saakashvili.
The politician noted that international law and Ukrainian legislation prohibits the deprivation of nationality of citizens of Ukraine, if “they have no other nationality.” He also added that he was “very sorry” that the President “not only uses the services of” these “openly gang of crooks”, but “listens to their advice”.
Previously, Verkhovna Rada Deputy Vadim Rabinovich called to deprive Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship and to extradite him to the authorities of Georgia. He stated this in an interview with TSN. Rabinovich noted that he has already requested the interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and President Petro Poroshenko. According to him, in case of granting citizenship Saakashvili “had violated the laws of Ukraine”.
