“We demand to immediately call an election with the new law and the CEC [Central election Commission] and the abolition of parliamentary immunity”, — said the ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili at a rally in Kiev on Sunday.
The rally was the first mass action of its movement “movement new forces”, which Saakashvili announced after the resignation from a post of the Governor of the Odessa region in early November. It was held under the slogan “the Last winter of the current Parliament”.
According to the newspaper “Left coast”, at the rally attended by about 1 thousand people, “Ukrainian Pravda” reported about several thousands of protesters. Beyond the stream in Facebook watched about 10 thousand people.
“The government, the presidential administration, the President, Parliament is blatantly lying, declaring all who took to the streets, the Kremlin’s agents”, — Saakashvili said, speaking to supporters. “Let’s see how one team of heavy pushers turned Ukraine into a private office. Over the past quarter century, they systematically robbed the whole country, they systematically took control of all TV channels, they systematically bought the entire political class,” continued the ex-Governor.
The Program Of Saakashvili
The former Governor who came to work to Ukraine at the invitation of his University friend, President Petro Poroshenko announced the start of mobilization under the call for early elections.
Saakashvili also called the main purpose of his movement: “uncompromising reform”, “zero tolerance to corruption” purge of the state apparatus and “landing of the thieves in power”, getting people and businesses from regulatory burden, massive tax cuts and simplification of the tax system, fundamental judicial reform, the radical liberalization of the economy, reform healthcare and education, bringing order to the country.
Saakashvili also in favour of strengthening the vertical of power in Ukraine and the rejection of decentralization, which supports President Poroshenko. “Decentralization is exactly the wrong prescription. The decentralization we can talk about decentralization of chaos and mess?” — in absentia had an argument with a University friend of Saakashvili.
Speaking about the programme, Saakashvili, referring to the experience of Georgia, said, “I’m in Georgia built 200 new hospitals, they are better than here.”
The first part of his speech the former President has devoted to criticism of the existing in Ukraine system of government. He said that for the last 25 years in power in the country was “gang heavy huckster”, which is doing everything to prevent it into power. He repeated the accusations of the Pro-presidential party “Block of Petro Poroshenko” in an attempt to deprive him of citizenship. “The reason for their hatred that they can’t bribe me. I’m not their project, I’m not part of their corrupt immoral culture,” Saakashvili said.
Prospects of Association and election
At the meeting Saakashvili talked about how to develop his movement and who it can include. However, one of the leaders of the “movement of new forces,” David Sakvarelidze in an interview before the rally said that the movement can join several political parties, particularly the Democratic Alliance, created by deputies Svetlana Zalishchuk and Mustafa Nayem. He also said that “sooner or later” will be the unification movement, Saakashvili’s party “Samopomich” mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy.
According to Sakvarelidze, early elections will be held, as “the rating of the President and the government is going to hell because they do not emit any reform except the declared millions.”
Sakvarelidze and Saakashvili themselves to run for Parliament may not, however, according to the first, can help others.
According to opinion polls, while the rating of the motion Saakashvili is around 1-2%.
It was selected in 2014 for five years. Against early parliamentary elections were foreign partners of Kiev, however, with the election of a new President of the United States the attention of Washington and the EU to Ukraine could weaken, which makes possible the announcement of early elections, says Oleg Ignatov, Deputy Director of the political conjuncture.
For President Poroshenko and the government the emergence of a new opposition player can be beneficial, as it will break the protest potential: Saakashvili may take votes of supporters of the “Batkivshchyna” Yulia Tymoshenko, dragging on itself the major cities and the middle class, says Ignatov.
