The government supported the bill deputies about increase of state funding of parties, received following the results of elections to the state Duma not less than 3% of the vote. This was told by two members of the meeting of the government Commission on legislative activities, held on 28 November.
The bill, introduced in mid-November, the first Vice-speaker of the state Duma from the Communist party Ivan Melnikov, Vice-speaker from LDPR Igor Lebedev, the leader of “Fair Russia” Sergey Mironov and head of the United Russia faction Vladimir Vasiliev. They offered amendments to the law on political parties that would increase government funding of the said parties from 110 rubles for a vote to 152 rubles per year (from 1 January 2017). The funding “ensures the stability of the political system and aims to reduce the dependence of parties on private donors,” reads the explanatory note to the bill.
