Poroshenko called “Russian aggression” worse than the Chernobyl disaster


The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, speaking at the ceremony to mark the completion of the construction of a new protective arch over the fourth unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (ChNPP), called the incident it crash less terrible ordeal than the “Russian aggression”, reports “Interfax”.

Poroshenko also thanked the international community for assistance and solidarity with Ukraine. According to him, to build a new protective arch of the Ukraine helped a coalition of 28 countries, collected €1,417 billion In construction was attended by 10 thousand workers from different countries.

New safe confinement of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is a movable construction 165m, with a height of 110m, a width of 260 m and a total weight of 36.2 thousand tons. Its construction began in 2012 after extensive preparatory work at the site.

The new design was built in a clean area near the 4-th unit of Chernobyl and overcame 327м to a tenured position over this unit. It will protect the ChNPP site and will allow you to disassemble the existing old shelter.

The accident at the Chernobyl NPP occurred on April 25, 1986, was recognized as the largest man-made disasters. The explosion in the fourth reactor released into the atmosphere enormous quantities of radioactive elements that made uninhabitable area within a radius of tens of kilometers.
