The offshore section of the gas pipeline “Turkish stream” will be built in the second half of 2017, told reporters the head of “Gazprom” Alexey Miller following the results of negotiations of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev meets with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.
“Today we can state with confidence that the second half of 2017 will begin construction of the offshore section of Turkish stream. Both lines: the first and the second will be commissioned before the end of 2019,” said Miller (quoted by “Interfax”).
The head of Gazprom also said that construction contractor has not been chosen. Currently, according to Miller, has finalized a feasibility study of entrance points of the “Turkish stream” on the territory of the European Union.
“Currently, the priority of gas supply to Europe is the Turkish-Greek border. This will need to build transport capacity across Turkey, with a length of about 500 kilometers,” — said Miller, noting that the priority remains the option of continuing the “Turkish stream” in the form of the Poseidon pipeline, which will run under the Ionian sea and will connect the gas transmission systems of Greece and Italy.
On plans for the construction of the gas pipeline “Turkish stream” on the bottom of the Black sea Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Ankara in 2014. Negotiations on the project were suspended in November 2015, after the Turkish air force shot down a Russian su-24 bomber. After the beginning of normalization of relations between the two countries at the beginning of October 2016, Russia and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on construction of two sections of the “Turkish stream.” December 2, for the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement with Russia “Turkish stream” voted by the Turkish Parliament, and on December 5, the relevant law was signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Our ratification will occur in the near future. Will review documents at a government meeting, and then they pass all the necessary ratification procedures,” — said at a press conference after a meeting with Yildirim Dmitry Medvedev.
