Putin spoke on the phone with the Pope

As they say in the message of the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation, “warmly congratulated” Pope Francis with the 80-year anniversary. Earlier, the President sent the Pope a telegram of congratulations.

The President “said his [Francis’s] great personal contribution to strengthening relations between Russia and the Vatican, which in recent years has reached a qualitatively new level.”

In addition, Putin and the Pope “exchanged views on protection of Christians in the area of regional conflicts and the importance of constructive inter-confessional dialogue to preserve moral principles in world Affairs”.
