Poroshenko arrived in the conflict zone in Donbas with U.S. senators

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Saturday, 31 December, together with American senators arrived to the command post in the area of Shirokino. This was reported by press Secretary of Ukrainian President Svyatoslav Tsegolko in his Facebook.

“The President and the American senators arrived to the command post in the area of Shirokino to wish the Marines a happy New year. It is up to our soldiers we owe the opportunity to feel safe”, — he wrote.

Tsigalko said Poroshenko “has awarded the best of them and separately awarded Senator [John. —] McCain the Ukrainian weapon”.

On the eve on the website of the Ukrainian President reported that he met with U.S. Senate delegation led by Senator McCain, which also includes Lindsey Graham and Amy Klobuchar.

The President awarded McCain the order of Liberty and noted the order of Yaroslav the Wise Senator Lindsey Graham for his “significant personal contribution to the strengthening of relations between Ukraine and the United States of America.”

At the same time Poroshenko invited the senators to visit the Donbass “to obtain objective information about the subversive actions of the Russian side and the militants that continued provocation and violate the cease-fire.”

Ukraine has recognized Russia an “aggressor country” in January 2015. In addition, Kiev considers “terrorist organizations” the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s Republic. Also, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly accused Russia of funding and military assistance to the militia DND and LNR. Moscow denies sending in the Donbass weapons and participation in military actions on Ukraine by the Russian military.
