Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the authorities have identified the man who staged the attack in a night club of Istanbul new year’s eve. He stated this at a briefing, reports Anadolu news Agency.
The Minister refused to name the attacker. The Agency had earlier reported about the detention in Izmir another five suspects involved in the attack. Eight people suspected of involvement in the crime, was arrested on 2 January. Authorities said that the number of suspects may increase, until the investigation of the attack.
The attack on the night club Reina in Istanbul occurred on the night of 1 January. The gunman, killing the guards at the entrance, got inside the building. There he opened fire on the visitors. Killing 39 people, including 16 foreigners, another 65 people were injured. Among the victims was a citizen of Russia — the 28-year-old Nurana Hasanova.
The assailant managed to escape from the crime scene. CNN Turk, citing data from the police showed that the attackers could be a citizen of Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan. Later, however, the State Committee for national security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan declared innocence to the attack citizen of the country.
Responsibility for what happened took the banned terrorist organization “Islamic state”.
