The foreign Ministry responded to the invitation of Kiev reforms in the UN security Council due to Russia’s veto

Before to take initiatives for reforming the UN security Council, Kiev must “clean its own house.” This was during the briefing said the official representative of the foreign Ministry of Russia Maria Zakharova.

“I want to answer him [the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin] one advice: you should first bring order at home, there are things there to solve all the problems and then to undertake for the improvement of the international mechanisms,” Zakharova said (quoted by “Interfax”).

She also noted that the opinion of Kiev “can be heard on other issues”, when Ukraine will solve all the problems which are currently “forced to engage the entire international community”. And yet, according to Zakharova, “international mechanisms without Mr. Klimkin and work so well.”

Yesterday, during a meeting of the UN security Council on issues of unresolved conflicts in Europe, foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that Russia is “abusing” the veto power and the UN security Council needs urgent reforms.

“The security Council must be able to respond effectively to violent conflicts, despite the possible presence of the parties to the conflict at this table as a permanent member of the UN security Council,” — said the head of the Ukrainian foreign Ministry. In his opinion, paragraph 3 of article 27 of the UN Charter, which States that “the party which is involved in the dispute must abstain from voting when making decisions,” continues to be ignored. Therefore, said Klimkin, it is necessary to implement clear procedures for the proper implementation of this article.

Russia, along with Britain, the US, China and France is a permanent member of the UN security Council and has veto power, which allows to reject the draft resolutions regardless of the number of votes.
