Kudrin spoke out against the idea to tax the labor of robots

Chairman of the Board of the Center for strategic research (CSR), the ex-Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, speaking at an Investment forum in Sochi, spoke out against taxation on labor robots.

“I believe that this is not a good idea. The fact that robots are different,” — said Kudrin. He explained that, unlike people, in the case of robots, it is difficult to determine what constitutes a unit of labor.

He noted at the same time, as a result of the robotics company profits will grow. Due to her, added Kudrin, and we need to help people who lose jobs, contributing greatly to their adaptation and re-training. In addition, you will need to enter and tax on technological progress, says ex-Minister.

To tax the labor of robots replacing human production was earlier proposed by billionaire bill gates. The replacement of many jobs in many areas of the business work will occur almost simultaneously, he said, but tax policy is the best means to regulate this process.

In his opinion, the funds need to be spent on assistance to the poor, unemployed and children with disabilities. In addition, the robots collected taxes will be spent on health, infrastructure and law enforcement, as well as retraining unemployed workers.

In February, the European Parliament rejected a proposal to introduce a tax on robots. However, lawmakers have adopted a number of recommendations for the European Commission to regulate this sector.
