Moscow. March 10. X5 Retail Group two weeks ago began testing online supermarket “Crossroads”, report “Vedomosti” with reference to the representative of the group. According to him, within five weeks of the employees of the Central office X5 in an amount of about 2 million people can order in the goods from the supermarket. Upon completion of the pilot project, the company will determine the launch date for ordinary buyers. It is assumed that in the second quarter of this year, the service will be available to residents of the South-West of Moscow and some cities of Moscow region. Residents of other districts and the city’s suburbs will have the opportunity to shop at the “Crossroads” using the Internet for 2017.

The intention to launch Internet-based “Crossroads” X5 announced in October 2016. “We are working on a project, an online supermarket, which we plan to launch early next year”, – said the General Director of a network “the Crossroads” Vladimir Sorokin. According to him, the supermarket, which will start online sales, and the site was ready. It was assumed that after the internal test, the company will bring the project to market, first in Moscow.

X5 Retail Group (“Pyaterochka”, “Perekrestok”, “Karusel”) had previously tried to sell online food products (electronics, household, books, etc.). In 2012, X5 launched an online store E5 (orders delivered to the stores of the retailer), but at the end of 2014 has closed it, not finding an investor for this project. Former X5 CEO Stephan Ducharme said that the E5 model was similar to Amazon, but this model works better in the format of a separate company, because it is not associated with the main range.
