The Ministry of justice has suspended the head of the organization “Jehovah’s Witnesses” in Russia. About it reports “RIA Novosti” with reference to the statement of the Ministry of justice.
From this it follows that a religious organization “Administrative center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” now is in the list of public and religious associations which activity is suspended “in connection with the exercise of extremist activity”.
On 17 March the Ministry of justice filed to the Supreme court banning “Jehovah’s Witnesses” in Russia. The lawsuit was filed on the basis of the results of check by Ministry of justice of the organization, the results of which were found violations. The Ministry of justice asked the Supreme court to recognize a religious organization “Administrative center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” and the extremist in the country to ban its activities.
Consideration of the claim of justice to the Supreme court is scheduled for April 5. Prior to this date, the Ministry has decided to suspend the activities of the organization.
“If the claim is satisfied, this will entail catastrophic consequences for religious freedom in Russia”, — said in a statement published on the website of the “Jehovah’s Witnesses”.
