The European Parliament overwhelmingly supported the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens. This is stated in a press release published on the website of the authority.
The vote took place in plenary session of European Parliament in Strasbourg. Voted for the bill 521 deputies, against — 75, 36 deputies refrained from voting.
The decision of the European Parliament said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. “Yes! 521 voice in the European Parliament for visa-free regime with Ukraine!” — he wrote on his page in Facebook.
Now the decision must be confirmed at the meeting of the Committee of permanent representatives of member countries of the European Union (COREPER), to be approved by the EU Council. Further, the document must be signed by the Chairman of the European Parliament and a representative of the presiding EU state (Malta), with subsequent publication in the official journal of the EU. 20 days after the publication of the decision will come into force.
