The Central Bank strengthened the verification determining the authenticity of banknotes equipment


The Central Bank has increased its efforts to verify the counting-sorting machine (SSM) that determine the authenticity of banknotes, to improve the quality of banknotes in circulation. In a press-service of the Bank of Russia noted that banknotes issued by credit institutions to clients, should be handled by the SMS with the verification of at least four machine-readable security features.

Such SSM will apply from 2008, but the regulations for the verification of compliance by credit institutions of the requirements of the SMS were fixed in 2014. For three years, was checked about 20 thousand of SSM, the newspaper cites data of the Central Bank. “In the beginning of 2014 about 50% of the tested SSM did not meet the requirements of the Central Bank, in 2015 — about 30%, now 10%,” — said the press service of the Bank.

For non-compliance of the SMS requirements, the penalties are not provided, the Central Bank only sends to the Bank the information that the machine cannot be used. Therefore, to achieve a reduction of violations can only be the frequency of inspections, explained in the Bank of Russia.

According to engineers of the banks responsible for the performance of the SMS, the machine is not necessary to change — you can reconfigure, but on the results of each inspection should be notified to the Board of Directors of the Bank.
