Russian HQs have terminated since may 1 sorties in the areas corresponding to the areas of de-escalation in Syria, which was agreed at the talks in Astana. This was reported to journalists on Friday, may 5, head of the General staff of Russia Sergey rudskoy, reports .
He noted that the use of aircraft of Russia’s air strikes in areas corresponding to areas of de-escalation, defined by the Memorandum, stopped from 00:00 on 1 may.
Rudskoy said that all in Syria while set up four zones of de-escalation. The most extensive, according to him, located in the North: it captures Idlib province, and bordering North-Eastern regions of the Latakia province, Western areas of the province of Aleppo and Northern Hama province. The second area is located in the North of HOMS province. The third in Eastern ghouta, the fourth — in the South of Syria in the border areas with Jordan in the provinces of Deira and Quneitra.
Further, according to Rudskoy, the number of zones of de-escalation can be increased. “If necessary, depending on the development environment, the Memorandum allows you to create additional zones of de-escalation”, — he added.
“I want to emphasize that the signing of the Memorandum on the establishment of a de-escalation in Syria means the end of the fight against terrorists “Islamic state” and “Jabhat EN-Nusra” [two terrorist organizations recognized in Russia is prohibited] on the territory of Syria,” said rudskoy.
The Memorandum of the four security zones in Syria was signed at the talks in Astana. The document comes into force on 6 may.
The chief of staff also noted that Russia and USA are going to discuss prospects for the resumption of the Memorandum of safety in Syria.
“The above Memorandum is, of course, plays a key importance from the point of view of security and exclusion of dangerous precedents in Syrian airspace. As you know, the Russian side suspended the operation of this Memorandum after a missile strike by the United States air force base at Shayrat. But at the same time, contacts workers by phone direct connection continue. The return of Russia to participate fully in the Memorandum will be discussed during bilateral contacts with our American partners in the near future,” said rudskoy.
