The agriculture Ministry has postponed a ban on the import of flour for animal feed

According to the newspaper “Kommersant”, citing sources familiar with the situation, restrictions on the import of meat and bone meal was postponed until 1 September. It is not excluded that the decision of this question will be postponed indefinitely.

The authors of the idea of the inclusion of flour in the embargo believed that this measure will allow to increase own production, however, manufacturers of pet foods has warned that it will lead to the suspension of the operation of the sites and reduce production capacity by 75%.

The newspaper’s sources indicate that the complete substitution of meat and bone meal Russian companies currently cannot. They will be able to provide at least 30% of the volume that comes from abroad.

The publication points to the fact that the production of flour suitable quality for the manufacture of feed for Pets, require special technology, equipment and cost, so many poultry farmers today just don’t want to do it.

Initially, the ban on imports of meat and bone meal was supposed to be in may, but since then, the border shifted several times. The last time this topic was raised on 21 July, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich promised then to make calculations and to consider the balance of the market.
