“Gazprom” took the first place in the top 250 leading energy companies in the world


Moscow. September 25. INTERFAX.RU – “Gazprom” took the first place ranking the top 250 oil and gas and energy corporations in the world according to S&P Global Platts (2017 S&P Global Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings). In total, the list includes 12 Russian companies.

American Corporation Exxon Mobil Corp., headed the ranking for 12 years, dropped from first to 9th place. LUKOIL remained in sixth place, Transneft rose from 33rd to 14th place, “Rosneft” dropped from seventh to 22nd.

The most significant growth indicators showed the Brazilian Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras (Eletrobras), has moved from 193 th to 47 th place, followed by British genkompanii Centrica Plc (from 156 th to 15 th) and Germany’s E. ON SE (114-th row to the 2nd).

The top 10 is represented by four companies from the Asia-Pacific region (APR) and Europe, middle East and Africa (EMEA) and only two companies from North and South America. Only the Asia-Pacific region accounts for 88 of the 250 companies, including three places of the top five: India’s Reliance Industries Ltd (3rd), Korea Electric Power (4th) and China Petroleum & Chemical (5-e).

Revenues of top 10 largest companies in the global energy sector jumped more than 30% compared to the previous year, with $830,2 billion to $1.1 trillion. Their combined profit in fingodu 2016 reached $63.7 billion, that is, were 14% lower than a year earlier.

The rating of Platts was drafted in this year for the 16th time on the basis of financial results of public energy companies with total assets over $5.5 billion, taking into account such factors as assets, revenues, profits and return on invested capital (ROIC) in fiscal year 2016.
