MOSCOW, November 10. /TASS/. The state Duma may adopt a law on mass media – foreign agents in response to the request of the US Department of justice, to RT to register as invagent. This was stated by Vice-speaker of the house Peter Tolstoy.
“Yes, this is it,” he said, answering the question TASS. “We will take ‘mirror’ measures, which will impose the same restrictions that are now trying to impose on the Russian media, the Americans, on the basis of the 1938 law on foreign agents”, – he explained.
“We are talking about a sufficiently clear legal criteria that will be presented,” continued Colon, adding that relevant work will be carried out of the Duma Committee on information policy and the media.
“Today will be a meeting of the Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodina] with heads of the Duma factions. We consider this an emergency situation and requires immediate action by all political forces of the country”, – said Vice-speaker of the state Duma.
Tolstoy added that he considers the actions of the U.S. justice Department against RT unacceptable. “All the talk about freedom of speech, which for over 25 years, we’ve heard from the US relate to all but one country – Russia”, – he said. “When not presented any evidence, any arguments, the decision is made based on the use of the term “Russian propaganda”. In this situation, Russia cannot remain aloof and pretend that nothing is happening,” – warned the politician.
Earlier, the U.S. justice Department demanded that the American branch of Russian TV company RT until November 13 to register as a foreign agent. This TV company reported Thursday on its website. Director General of RT, Alexey Nikolov at a meeting of the interim Commission of the Federation Council’s information policy and interaction with the media said that the channel is not pleaded Incognita.
The chief editor of RT Margarita Simonyan said later that the guide channel was forced to agree to the registration ieagent, because otherwise the company will not be able to work in the United States, as the leader of its representative offices and accounts can be arrested.
